Fellow Compatriots, as you celebrate the Eid-El-Kabir, I salute your steadfastness in spite of the difficult economic times the country is going through.

The lessons of the Eid are piety and sacrifice and, my dear brothers and sisters, you have exhibited these in equal measure.

The present recession is as a result of cumulative effects of worldwide economic downturn and failure in the past to plan and save for difficult times. It is impossible to separate the present from the past to appreciate the extent to which mistakes of the past are affecting everyday life today.

I assure you that this administration is working round the clock to remove the hardships the country is going through. Rail and road constructions, projects in the housing sector, support for farmers and for small and medium scale industries, youth and women's empowerment programmes, support for revival of industries are all designed to reinvigorate the economy and enhance living standards of ordinary people.

We are getting security right. We are stopping corruption in its tracks and we will get the economy right by the Grace of God.

I enjoin Muslims to live by the dictates of Islam, to keep good relationships with their Christian brothers and sisters and as patriots to maintain the spirit of the Nigerian nation.

Ayo ‘AY’ Makun, popular comedian, says his stand-up comedy shows are always sold out, in spite of the criticY is an award winning actor, comedian, radio and TV presenter, whose business acumen has helped him build a comedy empire.

However, his critics believe his jokes are below par, in comparison to some of his colleagues.

The comedian whose movie ’30 Days In Atlanta’, recently made it into the 2017 Guinness book of world records, took to social media to respond to his critics.

AY said: “Some say “Ay you are dry” yet my shows are usually sold out. Some even say ‘Ay you have no business doing movies’ yet my first ever movie landed me in the Guinness World Records as the highest grossing movie in Nollywood and continent of Africa.” He further noted that to attain success, one must have self belief, a reasonable degree of panache and the ability to overlook harsh comments. “You need to learn how to ignore what people say or think of you. Believe in yourself. Have faith in your abilities. Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy”, he added.

Perhaps feeling confident and over buoyed by his back to back victories on the headies award rooster and coming off with a hit as 'Oluwa ni'  Reeky Tom Tom went brave with the name for his debut album.
His has been a journey of hard work, fewer luck and much determination. Before his Mavin days we already saw the young man as someone with very much the same skill set as our boy wonder "WIZKID" . He is that good and boy can sing having been instrumental to the success of several Mavin Records’ crew collaborations like the ground-breaking ‘Dorobucci’, ‘Adaobi’ and Looku Looku,’ to name a few.
With 'Chop Am' he caught our imagination but what really blew us off on a personal project of his was 'Katapot' and by the time he gave us Oluwa Ni, he had solidified his status as a member of the certified hit makers we've got. Having sailed away with the Headies next rated award amidst several beefs and various divisive opinions , he was perhaps pressured to release a debut album having seen his counterpart Lil Kesh come out with his own body of work.

He has given us 'SPOTLIGHT' to feed on but has he really hit the spotlights with this debut album? Not yet. Ouwa ni and Hey stranger seem to be the pick of the bunch and even those two seem to not be gaining ground just yet. This is an impressive collection no doubt but he won't be amassing the huge fan base just yet with SPOTLIGHT.

NIGERIA NEEDS $142 MILLION DOLLARS TO TACKLE GLOBAL WARMING



Nigeria needs $142 million dollars between now and 2030 to finance its Intended Nationally Determined Commitment to reduce emission and low carbon for improved environment.

A statement from the Special Assistant to the Minister of Environment on Communications, Ms Esther Agbarakwe, announced the development on Saturday after a stakeholders’ consultation on pilot issuance of green bonds in Nigeria.

Quoting the Minister of Environment, Mrs Amina Mohammed, the statement said, “The resource needed to finance the INDC is put at 142 million dollars between now and 2030.

“The forum is part of a continuing collaboration between the ministry of environment and the ministry of finance to explore and develop a product that can leverage and channel resources toward viable green projects.

Also, it can contribute to the achievement of the nation’s development objectives.’’

She said the issuance of green bonds, which had grown from 3 billion dollars per annum since 2012 to an estimated 100 billion dollars for 2016, presented a viable option.

The special assistant also recalled that in May, the minister was presented with a proposal by the Nigerian Stock Exchange in Lagos on the issuance of green bonds in Nigeria.

Agbarakwe explained that thereafter, several consultations with the NSE, SEC and UNEP had been held to critically look into the potential of financing Nigeria’s INDC implementation through green bonds and other multi-lateral funding mechanisms.

She said, “Green bonds have been the subject of increasing government, investor and media interest and expectations, driven by the prospect of matching large low‑carbon investment requirements with the trillions of dollars in global bond markets held by institutional investors.’’

Agbarakwe said that participants at the forum were drawn from the federal ministries of finance, budget and national planning, trade and investment, the NSE, the Debt Management Office and the Central Bank of Nigeri.

Others, she said, were the Securities and Exchange Commission, the National Assembly, the Africa Finance Corporation, the World Bank, UNEP, UNDP, McKingsey and Company, Chapel Hill Denham, Stanbic IBTC, DFID/NIAF and other private sector representatives. (NAN)
